  • Auctioneers are important strategic selling partners

    In most cases traditional auctions are still the very best route for redirecting high-end antiques and valuables. 

    We have tried-and-true experience with numerous auction houses in the area. Be aware...not all auction houses are created equally, that's why we select the auction or auction houses that are most appropriate for our client's unique property. It's important to know who is best suited to sell high end property versus ordinary goods and everything in between.

    SELLING VIA AUCTION:

    When you sell via traditional auction the commission rates can vary from 10% to 40% of the hammer price of each item. Bear in mind, that's not cumulative, it's on an item-by-item basis.  So for clients with a lot of low-end product the seller could be giving up nearly half of their proceeds.  Now you might ask yourself if that's fair...I assure you, most of the time it is.  It takes a lot of time to handle these items over and over again and it takes just as long to sell something for $20 as it does $1200. 

    Auctioneers are our friends and strategic partners who help keep product flowing in and out of the marketplace in an efficient manner.  They often recognize the trends long before the general public and have a keen sense of what is hot and what is not! 

    Auctioneers are painfully aware that your perception of value may be quite different from reality - so don't be too quick to judge!  The truth is things are only worth what someone else is willing to pay - no matter which route you choose. 

    SELLING TO PRIVATE BUYERS:

    It takes years of building relationships with prospective buyers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients. We have private buyers for everything from coins and jewelry to china and antiques. Whenever possible we will offer items to private buyers.

    SELLING VIA CONSIGMENT SHOPS:

    We're often asked about consigning clothing, purses, jewelry and other types of personal accessories with neighborhood consignment stores.  Opting for this route you'll find the commission rates are usually anywhere from 40-60% of the selling price.  Again, keep in mind these storefronts have overhead just like the auction houses.  They have to pay for storage space, electricity, help, etc.  Trust me, it's not cheap to be in business, so we all help pay for the convenience of having someone else do all the work. 

    As long as you're willing to monitor your consigments and be pro-active about collecting your money or your property - if it doesn't sell, this is another alternative. Be sure you get some recommendations from others before entrusting your property to an unknown.  You may be out your money and your stuff!

     

  • Sheree Richnow of Richnow LifeStyle Transitions finds the flags belonging to the U.S.S. Consitution, Old Ironsides.

    A couple of years ago while processing a Chester Springs estate Sheree found a collection of priceless flags that once flew aboard the U.S.S. Constitution, Old Ironsides. The flags dated back to the 1800s and had they been overlooked would have been a huge monetary loss to our clients as well as our country. (The flags were sold through Freeman's Auctions in 2012.)

When we wanted to sell our beloved Steinway Upright piano in a hurry before the holidays Sheree offered to list it for us via her in-house Ebay Store.  We told her what we wanted to net as a minimum and then she went to work.  She researched other similar pianos and gave us a level-headed projection of what we might expect. 

Within 10 days she secured a buyer and coordinated the pick up from our home.

We were thrilled at the response - and with a check for exactly what we wanted. She made it easy and quick to turn our piano in to cash!
